Princeville Botanical Gardens and Chocolate Tour

Aug 29, 2019 | Activities, Attractions

Chocolates and flowers make the perfect gift, and they are also a great combination for tours and excursions on the island of Kauai.

The Princeville Botanical Gardens and Chocolate Tour is one of the most popular tours booked by the Ali’i Kai resort team.

The three-hour walking tour covers every corner of Princeville Botanical Gardens. Your guide shares stories of the garden’s development and a wealth of fascinating information about the plants. Samples of seasonal fruit samples and homemade honey are on hand to keep your energy levels up as you explore the garden’s lush valleys.

The tour also includes a half-hour organic chocolate tasting.  You’ll learn about the cacao tree and the history of chocolate making and then get to sample delicious gourmet chocolates from around the world.

About the Princeville Botanical Gardens

The Princeville Botanical Gardens began as a personal hobby of Bill and Lucinda Robertson in 2001. When they moved to Kauai full-time in 2004, it expanded in scope and surpassed all expectations.

Hidden in the jungle valleys of Princeville, dramatic topography, natural landscaping, and tender cultivation have culminated in a garden paradise.

Previously cattle land, centuries of introduced plants had strangled the native flora throughout the Anini Stream valley. After fighting back the jungle, the Robertsons continue to protect the land from encroaching invasive species. Supplementing the soil with organic fertilizers and homemade compost, organic and sustainable practices are a priority. With the help of passionate gardeners, friends and neighbors, the land has slowly been transformed.

Though young, Princeville Botanical Gardens is home to some of the healthiest specimens on Kauai. If offers a diverse collection comparable to the other beautiful gardens of the Garden Island. Besides native and “canoe” plants, the gardens are home to potent medicinal, rare and endangered flowers, and useful economic plants from around the world.

In August 2010, the Robertsons decided to share their garden with the public and opened for small guided tours. Princeville Botanical Gardens offers a unique opportunity to see a family-grown-and-operated botanical garden with exotic flowers, delicious fruit trees, and organic homegrown chocolate.

Princeville Botanical Gardens is proud to make and share its own organic chocolate, as well as delicious honey from on-site beehives. You can taste these treats and explore the rest of the gardens on a private guided tour offered three days a week.
