New Kauai Land and Sea tour is a winner

Aug 7, 2018 | Activities, Attractions, Kauai

If you are looking for a truly exceptional experience during your Kauai vacation, then the Ali’i Kai Resort team recommends the newest excursion on the island – the Na Waiwai Land and Sea Tour

This is a unique land and sea exploration of the coastal area of Kauai. It takes you off the beaten path, revealing the Botanical Gardens and the sunny southern side of the island from Port Allen to Poipu.

This five-hour trip starts with transportation through a private entrance in Kalaheo to the National Tropical Botanical Gardens. Here, you’ll enjoy a unique look at one of the largest collections of native Hawaiian flora in existence. You’ll journey along a winding back road from the top of a mountain down into an emerald-green valley blanketed with a lush forest of approximately 15,000 living native Hawaiian plants.

Take a short hike to the bottom of a beautiful waterfall. Breathe in the fresh air while enjoying a private hula show by award-winning Halau Ka Lei Mokihana o Leina’ala. Learn about the history of the Lawa’i Ahupua’a, a native Hawaiian sustainable system, and the very important role kalo, otherwise known as taro, plays to the Hawaiian people, both past and present.

Then, visit Hale Ho’ona’auau, a traditional Hawaiian home built by hand according to Hawaiian customs from materials completely harvested within the McBryde Garden.

Walk through a canoe garden and learn about the hokule’a, or star compass, used by early Polynesian voyagers to navigate the seas. Find out what canoe plants they brought with them when they settled in their new land over 500 years ago.

You will be transported back to Port Allen to end the rest of your peaceful afternoon with a Hawaiian-style sunset Dinner Sail along Poipu’s sunny south shore.

Feel Kauai’s aloha as you listen to traditional Hawaiian music while taking in breathtaking views of the Lawa’i Valley’s ahupua’a from the water. Sample authentic Hawaiian poi while savoring the delicious flavors of a local-style buffet. Unwind with a traditional Koloa Rum Mai Tai as you witness the sun gently setting into the sea.
