Booster not required for Kauai travelers

Feb 9, 2022 | Kauai, News

Hawaii does not require passengers to obtain COVID-19 booster injections in addition to a full immunisation certificate to visit the islands. Hawaii’s governor, David Ige, has stated that the state’s Safe Travels programme will not be altered.

Individuals who had their primary COVID-19 immunisation series 14 days before arrival or who show a valid negative pre-travel test will be excluded from the mandatory five-day quarantine.

The finer details

“Today’s decision by Governor Ige strikes a good balance between protecting public health and safety and continuing the recovery of our economy which supports so many of our kamaaina families. While booster shots are not required to travel, we encourage visitors to stay up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccines, wear their masks and travel responsibly throughout our islands,” said John De Fries, HTA president and CEO.

“Many of Hawaii’s businesses and visitor industry partners continue to work diligently to get their employees vaccinated and boosted to ensure that we can continue to keep Hawaii safe and to be effective hosts to our visitors. We appreciate everyone taking personal responsibility to malama (care for) ourselves and one another.”

De Fries also expressed gratitude to the tourism industry for its efforts to keep travellers informed and prepared, particularly airlines, which have had to step up and pre-clear passengers.

The required Safe Travels program continues in effect, and travelers are deemed up to date for immunizations that require two doses or vaccines that only require one shot on the 14th day.
